The primary objective of the Music Department is to promote worship through the use of musical talents. We strive to teach sound musical practices and techniques in an encouraging, Christian environment.
While we recognize that an integral component of music is performance, we stress that expression through music is an act of praise and an offering of gratitude to God.
This choir of approximately 30 voices is open to all who enjoy singing. It is the choir that leads worship services each week (except the last Sunday of each month) from September through June. The Chancel Choir has participated in many festivals and concerts, and enjoys presenting a wide variety of music styles. Rehearsals are on Thursday from 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Don Dickinson is the director. Organists are Robby Edwards and Bev Morton. Piano accompanists are Arlene Zook and Beth Dickinson.
Spirit Choir is for children in grades 3 through 8. The Spirit Choir sings during the 9:00 a.m. worship service on the last Sunday of each month from September through April. Beth Dickinson and Arlene Zook are director and accompanist. Rehearsals are on Thursday from 6:45 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. in the Kindergarten Room.
Linda Dickinson directs the Cherub Choir for children ages 4 through the second grade. They rehearse on Thursdays from 6:45 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. The cherub Choir sings periodically from September through May. The accompanist is Arlene Zook. This choir is often the first opportunity children have to participate in worship.
Messiah Church Orchestra
This string and woodwind ensemble plays for selected worship services and concerts throughout the year. The orchestra often accompanies the Chancel Choir for special programs.
Notre Dame Bell Choir
Messiah Church has a 4-octave set of Schulmerich English Handbells. The Notre Dame Bell Choir plays on various occasions during worship and in concerts throughout the year. Notre Dame Bell Choir rehearsals are led by Ronda Washinger on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. in the Bell Choir Room.
